“And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.” Ezekiel 22:30 KJV
If there is an intercessor, the enemy’s plans can be overturned, nations can be delivered, destinies preserved, and the church will advance triumphantly. God Himself declares in Ezekiel 22:30 that He sought for a man to stand in the gap, but found none. Abraham interceded for Sodom in Genesis 18:22–32, and though the city perished, God revealed His willingness to spare it for the sake of the righteous. Moses interceded for Israel after they made the golden calf, and the Lord relented from destroying them (Exodus 32:11-14). When Amalek fought against Israel, victory came as Aaron and Hur supported Moses’ hands in intercession (Exodus 17:12). Jesus Himself showed the power of intercession when He told Peter, “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee” (Luke 22:31–32 KJV). Intercession restrains destruction and releases deliverance.
The New Testament equally emphasizes the call to intercede. The church prayed without ceasing for Peter, and he was miraculously released from prison by an angel (Acts 12:5–7). Paul continually gave thanks and prayed for the churches (Ephesians 1:16–18), modeling a lifestyle of intercession. The Holy Spirit Himself makes intercession for the saints with groanings which cannot be uttered (Romans 8:26–27), showing that intercession aligns believers with God’s perfect will. Job’s fortunes were restored when he prayed for his friends (Job 42:10), reminding us that intercession also brings blessing to the intercessor. Therefore, make sure you are interceding daily for someone, your family, leaders, nation, and the church. Likewise, pray that God will raise intercessors to stand in the gap for you, for it is written: “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (James 5:16 KJV).
Prophetic word: I prophesy over your life that you will not lack intercessors in the seasons when the battle is fiercest. I decree that those whom God has appointed to stand in the gap for you will rise up and not be silent. I prophesy that your destiny shall not be aborted, your family shall not be devoured, and your nation shall not be destroyed because the hedge of prayer is restored. I declare that, like Peter, even when the enemy seeks to sift you as wheat, the intercession of Christ and His chosen vessels shall preserve you. I prophesy that you shall also rise as an intercessor for others, lifting up hands that will not grow weary, standing between judgment and mercy, and calling forth deliverance, healing, and revival for the land. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
Prayer: Father, in the name of Jesus, thank You for calling us to the place of intercession. We repent for every moment where we have neglected to stand in the gap. Lord, raise in us the spirit of true intercessors, men and women who will pray until heaven responds. As You looked for a man to stand in the gap, may You find us faithful. Empower us by the Holy Spirit to pray without ceasing for our families, leaders, communities, and nations. Lord, surround us with intercessors who will cover us in seasons of weakness, and let us also be faithful to cover others. We declare that the plans of the enemy are nullified, that destinies are preserved, and that Your church advances with power. Let revival break forth through intercession, and let Your kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
