“And it came to pass
the same night, that the Lord said unto him, Take thy father's young bullock,
even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal
that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it:" Judges 6:25 KJV
In our text today, God instructed Gideon to tear down the altar of Baal in his father’s house and build an altar unto the Lord. This reminds us that the battles of life are often altars of darkness and the altar of God, words against words, and mindsets against mindsets. As believers, we must see ourselves as God’s living altar and declare His word boldly (Acts 3:1-7; 1kings 17:1). Just as David confronted Goliath not with sword and spear but with the declaration of God’s name, victory begins with aligning our mindset with God’s word and standing as His altar (1 Samuel 17). The altar that stands in your life determines your outcome, for the altar of God is always supreme over every other altar (1 Samuel 5:1–6; Psalms 114).
Throughout Scripture, we see this reality: Elijah called down fire from heaven to prove the superiority of God’s altar over the prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18:36–39). Paul reminds us that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19), meaning we are God’s mobile altar. A sister was going to be forced to marry the idol of her village. She went to the village to become the wife of the idol after she had fasted and prayed for three days. She commanded fire from heaven against the shrine, and God answered, consuming the false altar. The people of the village told her that she had become their idol. Jesus said, “Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up” (Matthew 15:13). Beloved, if any altar is fighting you, uproot it in the name of Jesus. Pray until you literally become a habitation of God, His walking altar, for no evil altar can stand against the altar of the Living God.
Prophetic word: I prophesy over you that every strange altar speaking against your destiny is uprooted by the fire of the Holy Ghost in the name of Jesus. I declare that you are God’s living altar, consecrated and filled with His Spirit. No word of divination or enchantment shall prevail over you (Numbers 23:23). Just as Gideon tore down the altar of Baal, so shall every evil altar erected in your father’s house, mother’s house, or in your environment be dismantled today. I decree that you walk in victory, in divine authority, and in the fullness of your covenant inheritance. From today, your life will manifest as a testimony that the altar of God is greater than all. IN JESUS' NAME.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for making me Your temple and Your living altar. Today, I renounce and uproot every strange altar fighting my life, family, or destiny. Let the fire of the Holy Ghost consume them in Jesus’ name. Lord, build Your altar strong within me, an altar of prayer, worship, and sacrifice that no power of darkness can withstand. As You were with Elijah, Gideon, and David, be with me, Lord. Establish my words as fire and my life as a testimony of Your supremacy. From this day forward, may I carry Your presence, walk in victory, and shine as Your mobile altar. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
