Where is your prayer altar?

 “And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed." Mark 1:35 (KJV).

In our fast-paced world, the question "Where is your prayer altar?" invites us to reflect on the spiritual sanctuaries we create in our daily lives. Jesus exemplified this practice, as recorded in our text for today. This act of retreating to a secluded spot for prayer underscores the importance of finding a personal space to connect with God. The Bible frequently highlights the significance of setting aside time and space for prayer. In Matthew 6:6, Jesus advises, "But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly." This directive emphasizes the intimacy and solitude needed for meaningful communication with the Divine.

The concept of a prayer altar extends beyond physical location; it represents a dedicated space within our hearts and minds where we can meet God. In the Old Testament, altars were physical structures built to honor and worship God, such as the altar Abraham built in Genesis 12:7. As long as we approach with a heart prepared for communion with God, we can find our prayer altars today in the quiet corners of our homes, the serene spots in nature, or even within the bustling environment of our daily lives. As Psalms 91:1 reminds us, "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." By establishing our own prayer altars, we create consistent opportunities to dwell in God's presence, seek His guidance, and find solace in His shadow.
