Spiritual discipline

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20(KJV)

Spiritual discipline in Christianity is the daily surrender of self, sin, and worldly desires, allowing Christ to live fully through us. As Galatians 2:20 declares, "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me." This level of surrender is not optional but essential for those who desire to walk in the fullness of God’s presence and power. It means yielding every aspect of our lives to Him, even in areas that may not be sinful in themselves but become sinful when God instructs us otherwise. As Paul states in 1 Corinthians 10:23, "All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not." True spiritual discipline is obedience to God's voice, even when it requires denying personal desires or forsaking what is permissible in the eyes of others.

To live in this realm, we must die daily (1 Corinthians 15:31), constantly laying ourselves down as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to God (Romans 12:1). This discipline requires an ongoing mortification of the flesh, as commanded in Colossians 3:5: “Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry.” Just as Jesus fasted and prayed in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11), and Paul disciplined his body to keep it under subjection (1 Corinthians 9:27), we, too, are called to a life of consecration and obedience. When we crucify our flesh and submit wholly to God, we open ourselves to the deeper workings of the Holy Spirit, transforming us into vessels fit for His use.

Prophetic word: The Lord says, "I am calling you to a deeper place of surrender, a place where My Spirit will refine and purify you for My glory. As you yield yourself daily, I will fill you with My power, wisdom, and revelation. Do not be afraid to let go of what seems lawful but does not edify. For I am setting you apart, consecrating you for a greater purpose. My grace will sustain you as you walk this path of discipline, and you will see My hand move mightily in your life. As you die to self, you will come alive in Me, and the weight of My presence will rest upon you. Your prayers will carry new authority, your words will bring transformation, and your life will shine as a testimony of My glory. Be strong and courageous, for I am with you, and I will never leave nor forsake you."

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I come before You today, surrendering my life completely into Your hands. Lord, teach me what it means to die daily to my flesh, to my desires, and to the distractions of this world. Let my heart be fully yielded to You, that I may live not by my own will, but by the life of Christ in me. Lord, help me to walk in obedience, even when it is difficult. Strengthen me to say no to what does not edify and to embrace what draws me closer to You. Let my life be a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto You. I renounce every attachment that hinders my spiritual growth, and I ask for grace to walk in Your power, wisdom, and revelation. Father, refine me as gold is refined in the fire. Fill me afresh with Your Spirit and let Your presence overshadow me. In Jesus' mighty name, I pray. Amen.
