Enquire of the Lord!

“Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the Lord. And the Lord answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.” 2 Samuel 21:1

Today, our text read of a persistent famine that plagued Israel during King David's reign for three consecutive years. Despite being a man of prayer and worship, David did not assume the cause—he enquired of the Lord. And God revealed the hidden root: it was due to Saul’s bloodguilt over the Gibeonites. This teaches us that some battles require a specific enquiry into God’s counsel. Like David, when we face long-standing or mysterious challenges—whether personal, familial, or national—we must humble ourselves and ask God to reveal the root. Proverbs 25:2 says, “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.” When we ask, God reveals, heals, and delivers.

Some problems are deeply spiritual and covenant-based, and only divine revelation can expose them. Hidden curses, ancestral covenants, or disobedience might be at work—yet God promises deliverance. Isaiah 49:25 assures us that even captives held by mighty powers will be freed, for God will contend with those who contend with us. Psalm 34:17 reminds us that though the righteous face many afflictions, the Lord delivers them from them all. Just as God showed Hagar the well in the wilderness (Genesis 21:19), or gave Elisha insight into enemy plans (2 Kings 6:12), He will reveal the secrets behind your battles and guide you to victory. Enquire of the Lord today—He has the answers.

Prophetic word: The Lord says, “I am the God who sees in secret and reveals in light. What has been hidden from your understanding shall now be exposed by My Spirit. That cycle of delay, that persistent opposition, that silent battle in your life—I am uncovering it. As you enquire of Me, I will give you strategy, like I gave David. I will shine My light upon the dark places and uproot every evil covenant, every hidden altar speaking against your destiny. This is the hour of unveiling and victory. No longer will you fight blindly. You will receive wisdom, and your deliverance shall be complete. For I contend with those who contend with you, and I will restore what was lost.”

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I come before You today, acknowledging that You are the all-knowing and all-seeing God. Just as David enquired of You and received divine insight, I ask You to reveal the hidden causes of every persistent challenge in my life. Expose every unseen covenant, every root cause, and every spiritual battle that I am unaware of. Shine Your light upon my situation, O Lord, and let every darkness be scattered. Father, contend with those who contend with me. Break every generational yoke and silence every altar speaking against my progress. I declare, by the authority of Your Word in Isaiah 49:25, that every captivity holding me or my family bound is broken now! I receive deliverance from every affliction, and I walk in the freedom and victory purchased for me by the blood of Jesus. Thank You, Lord, for divine revelation, direction, and total restoration.
