“But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.” James 3:14-15 KJV
Envy and jealousy are not from God; they are expressions of earthly and fleshly wisdom that work against the purposes of God in our lives. Scripture teaches us to rejoice with those who rejoice (Romans 12:15a), because another person’s blessing is not your loss but a reminder that God is at work. When you celebrate what God is doing in others, you align your heart with heaven and make room for your own testimony.
The Bible lists envy among the works of the flesh (Galatians 5:21), and the story of Cain shows how envy destroys relationships and shuts hearts off from God’s grace (Genesis 4). Joseph’s brothers failed to see that they, too, were part of God’s plan; blinded by envy, they turned against him (Genesis 37:19–28). Envy does not advance you; it limits you. It blinds you to what God is doing in your own life and replaces gratitude with comparison (2 Corinthians 10:12). Choose gratitude over jealousy. Celebrate others sincerely, and live with expectation in God’s grace. What God does for another is not a threat to you; it is a reminder that He is faithful and still at work.
Prophetic Word: I declare that every root of envy, jealousy, and unhealthy comparison is removed from your heart in Jesus’ name. You will walk in love, contentment, and gratitude. You will celebrate the victories of others without bitterness, and your own season of manifestation will not be delayed. The Lord will give you a pure heart, a peaceful mind, and a joyful spirit, and you will see His goodness unfold in your life, in Jesus’ name.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the wisdom that comes from above. I ask You to
cleanse my heart from envy, jealousy, and every form of strife. Teach me to
rejoice with others and to trust Your timing for my life. Fill me with Your
love, peace, and contentment. Help me to walk in gratitude and obedience, and
to celebrate Your work in others without comparison. I receive Your grace and
Your peace today, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
