Don’t look back!

“And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:62KJV

The message is clear: don’t look back. When Jesus said, “No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62 KJV), He emphasized the importance of unwavering commitment and focus on what lies ahead. The best is yet to come. Galatians 6:9 encourages us, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” The reward and harvest are ahead, not behind. Even when the path seems uncertain or the trials overwhelming, remember Hebrews 12:2: “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Jesus endured His trials because His focus was on the glory ahead; we are called to do the same.

Lot’s wife serves as a sobering example of the consequences of looking back. Genesis 19:26 records how she looked back at Sodom and became a pillar of salt, a tragic reminder of the danger of clinging to the past instead of pressing forward. Jesus even warns us, “Remember Lot’s wife” (Luke 17:32). On the contrary, Elisha’s story in 2 Kings 2 demonstrates the power of steadfast focus. When he refused to look back, he received a double portion of Elijah’s anointing. Similarly, Hebrews 10:38 reminds us that “the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.” As we close this month of November, fix your eyes on the promises ahead. Your victory is near. Whatever you are facing, know that the glory to come will far outweigh the troubles of today. Press on in faith and determination—don’t look back!

Prophetic word: The Lord says, “Fix your eyes forward, for I am leading you into a season of breakthrough and fulfillment. The past no longer defines you, for I am doing a new thing in your life (Isaiah 43:18-19). What lies ahead is greater than anything you have left behind. Do not be distracted or discouraged by what once was, for I am calling you to walk in faith toward your destiny. Just as I went before Israel as a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night (Exodus 13:21), so I will guide you into the fullness of My promises. Your reward is coming; your harvest is near. Keep plowing, keep believing, and keep moving forward, for I am with you, and I will never fail you.”

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for the word of encouragement and direction You have given us today. Lord, I pray for the grace and strength to press forward without looking back. Let the power of Your Spirit keep our eyes fixed on the promises You have set before us. Father, just as Elisha boldly stepped into the double portion anointing by refusing to turn back, may we walk boldly into the new season You are opening before us. Lord, I pray for every burden, every distraction, and every chain of the past to be broken in Jesus' name. Strengthen our faith so that we may endure and not grow weary, knowing that our due season of reward is near (Galatians 6:9). Let our steps be ordered by Your Word, and may we finish the race set before us with joy and victory. Father, I declare over everyone connected to this word that their latter days shall be greater than the former (Haggai 2:9), and no weapon formed against them shall prosper. Thank You, Lord, for going before us and making the crooked places straight. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen!
